UJ Information Technology Systems Department is a unit of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow.

The department carries out research covering the following areas:
  • theory of formal languages and automata,
  • pattern recognition and syntactic pattern recognition,
  • information systems in management,
  • software engineering and systems engineering,
  • Artificial Intelligence systems (including: image analysis systems, real-time expert systems, CAD/CAM systems, Business Intelligence systems),
  • Artificial Intelligence theory (including models in cognitive science, mind theory and analytic philosophy),
  • project management.

Research results of the department have been published in:
  • 10 monographic books,
  • more than 200 reviewed papers (including 64 - ISI Master Journal List).
According to Science Citation Index our papers have been cited more than 4000 times.

The faculty is responsible for giving the following graduate lectures: "Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Representation", "Information Systems Modelling", "Databases", "Management Information Systems", and "Software Engineering". WZKS
